Description

This First Day Cover (FDC) highlights J.L. David's work "The Sabine Women" (1799), a reproduction of which is featured on the front. The letter is illustrated with a framed color vignette, depicting the famous scene painted by Jacques-Louis David and preserved at the Louvre Museum. The inscription "J.L. DAVID" appears at the top of the card, while the mention "LES SABINES (1799) Musée du Louvre" appears below the image, confirming the subject of this philatelic issue.

On the right side of the envelope, three French postage stamps are clearly visible, each displaying a classic Marianne profile in distinct colors: green, red, and blue. The legible face values are "3.50" and "4.00". These stamps are canceled with a round "PREMIER JOUR PARIS" postmark, typical of commemorative FDC envelopes, with the release date and the mention "DOCUMENTATION".

The entire item is presented in a transparent plastic sleeve, ensuring its visual preservation. The paper surface shows a smooth finish and clear prints, with no major visible alteration on the exposed side. In the lower right corner, a handwritten label bears the mention "6OF", likely an internal or classification reference.

The visual composition combines artistic illustration and philatelic elements, making it a typical piece of commemorative issues combining art and stamps. The overall condition of the visible side is clean, with no apparent folds or tears on the exposed area.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The visible side is in good condition, under plastic protection, with no major observable defects. No information on the condition of the back or any internal contents.

Did you know? First Day Covers (FDCs) are specific philatelic items, issued on the occasion of the official release of new stamps. They are canceled on the very day of issue, in a chosen city, here Paris, and often associate a cultural or historical subject with a series of commemorative stamps.
