Description

This listing is for a lot of four vintage handwritten letters, as shown in the photo, written in black or blue ink on cream stationery. Each sheet features dense, regular cursive handwriting, typical of private correspondence from the mid-20th century. The letters are dated, one bearing the inscription "Marseille, H.G. [or H.C.] le 13 janvier," which attests to their historical context. The texts are addressed to a woman, as indicated by the salutation "Chère Mariette," visible on the letter at the bottom left.

The four pages are arranged on a wooden table, with a bookshelf of bound books in the background, highlighting the authentic and private nature of the correspondence. The papers show a slight patina, ivory coloration, and some signs of wear, consistent with their presumed era (World War II, 1939-1945, according to the keywords and visible dating).

The handwriting is tight, occupying almost the entire sheet, with no apparent illustrations or printed letterhead. The handwritten text is generally legible, although some areas show slight variations in ink intensity or handwritten corrections. No postmark or envelope is visible in the image, only the front pages.

The correspondence provides a direct testament to daily life and shared emotions during the war period, characteristic of communication between loved ones at that time. Personal formulations can be observed, without administrative formalism, reinforcing the authenticity of the whole.

The paper surface shows slightly blunted corners and some minor creases, without major tears or significant stains on the visible sides. The writing style and layout are typical of the 1940s.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Traces of use, patina, and slight signs of age visible on the sheets. No major defects apparent on the presented sides.

Did you know? During World War II, handwritten correspondence was often the only link between soldiers, displaced persons, and their families remaining on the home front. Letters were subject to censorship and today bear witness to the daily life, feelings, and concerns of that troubled period.
