Description

Old handwritten document on paper, dated March 15, 1814 at the top. The sheet features a circular printed tax stamp for 75 c., with an allegorical figure, as well as dense brown ink writing.

The content is administrative or notarial, with mentions of members of the Colombet family and passages relating to an inventory, including descriptions of rooms and household goods. Several handwritten signatures are visible on one of the sheets, including Colombet signatures.

The whole retains the graphic charm of early 19th-century administrative writing: ruled lines, regular cursive, naturally nuanced ink, and old laid paper with a cream tone, browned by time.

Context

Dated 1814, this document falls within the pivotal period of the end of the First Empire and the beginning of the Restoration. Stamped papers were then used for official, administrative, or legal acts, their tax stamp attesting to the legal framework of the writing.
