Description
Old 19th-century handwritten administrative document, bearing a legible date of 1816. The piece features regular cursive writing in brown ink, spread over several lines, with flourishes and signatures at the end of the document.
The paper includes an illustrated 75 c tax stamp as well as a printed round stamp, characteristic elements of administrative and legal acts drawn up on stamped paper. Several proper names appear in the text and signatures, including Colombet and Javelle, visible in the photographs.
Context
Dated 1816, this document falls within the Restoration period, at the beginning of the 19th century. Stamped papers were then used to give administrative or legal value to acts, official correspondence, contracts, or handwritten declarations. The presence of the tax stamp, seals, and signatures reinforces the formal nature of this archival piece.
Condition
Used old document, sold as is. Paper yellowed by time, with folds, undulations, small stains, scattered foxing, and edge wear consistent with its age. The ink remains well-present and the general composition retains a beautiful decorative and documentary readability.
