AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
Old handwritten letter, written on a letterhead of the insurance company "LA PROTECTRICE", Compagnie Anonyme d’Assurances à Primes Fixes. The paper features a black printed letterhead at the top, mentioning the head office in Paris, regional offices (Marseilles), as well as telephone and administrative information. The handwritten text occupies most of the visible page, written in dark-colored ink, probably blue or black, in period cursive handwriting.
The letter begins with "Béa, this Monday evening" and reveals a personal testimony, presumably addressed to a wife or close relative, in the context of World War II (1939-1945). The handwritten content, although partially legible, clearly evokes the intimate and daily tone of a wartime exchange, typical of correspondence from that period.
The paper used is rectangular, without pre-printed lines, with a slight patina visible on the surface, testifying to its age. The edges appear clean and without major tears visible on the presented side. The writing retains its contrast, although some slight variations in shade may be observed, probably related to the age of the ink.
The whole is photographed flat on a wooden desk, with a row of old books in the background, reinforcing the historical and authentic aspect of the piece. No other elements or accessories are visible in the photo.
The printed information at the top allows dating and authenticating the support used, typical of French company letterheads during the first half of the 20th century. The whole constitutes a material testimony of daily life and family exchanges during the world conflict.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. The overall condition is correct for a document of this period: light patina, ink still legible, no pronounced tears or folds visible on the presented side.
Did you know? Handwritten correspondence during World War II was often made on salvaged company letterheads, as blank sheets were sometimes scarce. These letters are now valuable direct testimonies to the experiences and feelings of civilians and soldiers during the conflict.
