Description

This illustrated philatelic envelope is a First Day Cover (FDC) dedicated to the "Grand Pont de Bordeaux" (Great Bridge of Bordeaux). The front features a colorful illustration of the bridge, accompanied by foliage on the left and a stylized view of the Garonne River. The top of the envelope bears the inscription "LES GRANDS ÉDIFICES FRANÇAIS" (Great French Buildings), confirming the architectural theme.

Two round postmarks are clearly visible on the right side: the first indicates "PREMIER JOUR" (First Day) with the date May 13, 1967, the inscription "33 BORDEAUX," and a drawing of the bridge. The second, smaller postmark mentions "FIRST DAY COVER" and repeats the philatelic motif. These elements confirm the authenticity of this First Day Cover, issued for a specific postal event.

The item is protected within a transparent plastic sleeve, ensuring good preservation. A small handwritten label "10F" is visible in the lower right corner, likely an old price or a classification reference. The envelope features vibrant colors, with shades of blue, green, and brown in the illustration, and a striking contrast against the white background of the support.

The stamp, although partially obscured by the postmarks, is an integral part of the theme and blends into the overall graphic design of the envelope. In the upper right corner, an inscription specifies "ÉMIS PAR L’ADMINISTRATION DES POSTES" (Issued by the Postal Administration), guaranteeing an official edition. No major defects are visible on the front, apart from some reflections related to the protective sleeve.

The overall presentation is neat and typical of French FDCs from the 1960s, with a horizontal layout, the visual on the left, and the postmarks on the right, which facilitates display or archiving.

Condition

Used item, sold as is, protected in a plastic sleeve. The visible front shows no tears, creases, or apparent stains. Colors are well preserved, and inscriptions and postmarks remain clear and legible.

Did you know? First Day Covers, or FDCs, are issued exclusively when a new stamp is released. They are postmarked on the official day of issue, often in the city related to the subject depicted, as here Bordeaux for the Grand Pont. This type of product is highly valued for its specific postal cancellation and dedicated illustration.
