Lot of various French used stamps Marianne Semeuse colors philately
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Visual description
This lot includes a set of French postage stamps visible on an album page, mainly from the "Marianne" and "Semeuse" series. The stamps are postmarked, meaning they bear postal cancellations, which attests to their prior postal use. A wide variety of colors can be observed: carmine red, blue, green, violet, orange, brown, and black. Some stamps display distinct face values, such as 15c, 20c, 25c, 30c, 35c, 40c, 50c, 55c, 60c, 65c, 80c, 90c, 1F, 1.25F, etc.
Most of the stamps depict emblematic figures of French philately, such as Marianne and Semeuse, with engraved motifs typical of the 20th century. Several copies bear the mention "RF" (République Française) as well as inscriptions related to the French postal service. The stamps are arranged in columns, some in pairs or duplicates, others isolated. A few pieces show hinge marks or traces on the back, visible through the page.
The conservation conditions vary: most stamps show clear cancellations, some have slightly rounded corners or small traces of use, typical of circulated stamps. The colors remain vibrant and the perforation appears generally regular on the majority of the photographed copies. Some stamps show more pronounced cancellations or traces of previous mountings.
This lot offers an overview of different printings and shades of Marianne and Semeuse stamps, with several values repeated in different colors. The diversity of cancellations and color shades constitutes a particular interest for the thematic or chronological classification of 20th-century French issues.
Some stamps feature specific mentions such as "POSTES", "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE", or indications of value and postal service. There is also a blue stamp with a red surcharge, whose partially legible inscription shows the word "BLANC".

Did you know? The Marianne and Semeuse series are among the most emblematic in French philately. The Semeuse, designed by Oscar Roty, was used on French stamps starting in 1903, while Marianne has illustrated the Republic since 1944, with several artistic reinterpretations over the decades.
