Description

This lot consists of ten visible stamps, all from French West Africa (AOF), dedicated to airmail. Each stamp features varied illustrations, characteristic of the postal iconography of the era, with motifs of personalities, aerial scenes, landscapes, economic activities, and regional symbols.

The stamps display a dominant palette of sober and contrasting colors: violet, blue, green, brown, orange, and red. The illustrations notably include a portrait of aviator Mermoz, aviation scenes, stylized maps of West Africa, savanna and forest landscapes, a baobab tree, logging operations, views of Dakar, and daily life.

Several face values are visible, such as 8F, 15F, 25F, 50F, 100F, 200F, each clearly indicated on the stamps. The mention "POSTE AÉRIENNE" (AIRMAIL) is systematically present, highlighting their specific use. The inscriptions "RF" (République Française) and "AFRIQUE OCCIDENTALE FRANÇAISE" are also noted on each specimen.

The stamps are in used condition; some show visible cancellations, while others appear to be unused. The perforations seem neat and regular on the visible side. No folds, tears, or major defects are observable on the provided image.

This lot illustrates the thematic richness of French West African philately, with varied subjects ranging from aviation to local economy, including cartographic representations and scenes of African life.
