Lot of canceled French stamps Amiens Poitiers Eleanor of Aquitaine philately
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This lot comprises several French canceled postage stamps, carefully arranged on an album page. The visible stamps are all from recent commemorative issues, primarily themed around France's architectural and historical heritage.
The upper half of the lot features stamps illustrating Amiens Cathedral, recognizable by its detailed Gothic facade and the inscription "AMIENS," as well as "FRANCE" and "AMIENS 2013" on some copies. The composition highlights dominant pale green, blue, and brown hues, with an architectural motif and a stylized effigy of the cathedral. Several cancellations are visible, with clear postal marks on most of the stamps.
In the lower part, the lot includes "Poitiers – Vienne" and "Timbres passion 2014 Aliénor d’Aquitaine" stamps, illustrating historical buildings and a stylized portrait of Eleanor of Aquitaine, identifiable by her medieval headdress. The main colors are soft green, beige, and black, with a graphic design combining architecture and historical figures. Several copies bear cancellation stamps, confirming their postal use.
The entire page shows meticulous organization, with each stamp inserted into a transparent pocket. The general condition suggests used stamps, with visible postal ink marks, but no tears or major visible defects on the presented face. No details of the reverse side are observable.
The inscriptions "FRANCE," "AMIENS," "POITIERS - VIENNE," "TIMBRES PASSION 2014 ALIÉNOR D’AQUITAINE" are clearly legible on several copies. Some stamps also bear face value mentions such as "0.61 €" and "1.90."
This lot is ideal for enriching a thematic collection on French monuments and historical figures, with the presence of two major sites and an emblematic figure of medieval history.
