Description

This lot brings together several French postage stamps visible in the photo, mainly from the "Semeuse" and "Marianne" series, recognizable by their emblematic designs. The stamps are presented on a white sheet, arranged in three distinct lines, allowing for a good view of their illustrations and varied colors. Several shades are represented, including blue, purple, green, red, pink, orange, and gray, with each stamp displaying a different face value, clearly printed in numbers and letters.

Most stamps bear the mention "RF" (République Française) or "POSTES" as well as the inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" at the bottom of each vignette. The allegorical figures of the Semeuse and Marianne are clearly distinguishable, two classic representations in 20th-century French philately, illustrating sowing scenes or female profiles. Visible face values notably include 1F, 1.50F, 5F, 10F, 12F, 20F, 30F, 50c, 65c, 90c, 3.50F, 6F, among others, with color variations for the same value.

Several stamps in this lot are canceled, as evidenced by the visible postal cancellation marks, while others appear lightly or not canceled at all. Perforations are apparent on all outer edges, typical of classic stamps, and the general condition shows variations: some vignettes show wear, small discolorations, or slight yellowing of the paper, while others retain vibrant colors and good print contrast.

The Semeuse and Marianne series designs are characteristic of French philatelic production from the early to the mid-20th century. Inscriptions and values are clearly legible on the majority of stamps, allowing for easy identification of each item. No non-standard formats or irregular cuts are visible on the displayed side.

The lot offers a beautiful variety of colors and emblematic figures, suitable for those looking for classic French stamps to enrich an album or complete themes related to the French Republic, the Semeuse, or Marianne.

Condition

Used items, sold as is. Presence of cancellation marks, variations in preservation, signs of use, and wear visible on some stamps. Refer to the photo to assess the precise condition of each item.

Did you know? The "Semeuse" (Sower) is a motif created by the artist Oscar Roty in 1897, adopted to illustrate numerous French stamps in the 20th century. This republican symbol depicts a woman sowing seeds by hand, embodying the idea of progress and renewal. The figure of Marianne, another allegory of the Republic, has been used on many stamps since 1944, becoming one of the most recognizable visuals in national philately.
