Lot of thematic stamps: birds, planes, flowers, vehicles, Europe philately
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This lot brings together a collection of European postage stamps with various themes, carefully presented on an album page. The visible selection mainly includes rectangular or triangular stamps, with detailed and colorful illustrations representing various subjects.
In the upper part, several triangular stamps feature refined floral motifs, including crocuses, irises, and other stylized flowers on pastel and vivid backgrounds. These stamps show face values and inscriptions in Latin characters, some with the mention "N. F."
The central section groups stamps illustrating birds (waders, dove, hoopoe) as well as additional botanical motifs. The illustrations are finely executed, with realistic details on the plumage and the surrounding vegetation.
Further down, several predominantly blue and brown stamps highlight vintage vehicles and the history of aviation. We can notably distinguish early 20th-century automobiles, with inscriptions such as "Ernest Archdeacon 1907", "Albert & Emile Bonnet – Laplace 1908", or "Wright 1904". Some stamps bear the mention "LIRE" and display pioneering aircraft, notably those attributed to Santos Dumont, Glenn Curtiss, or Robert Latham. Several Italian and Hungarian stamps are visible, as well as partial cancellations.
At the bottom of the page, Polish stamps ("POLSKA") illustrate utility vehicles, tanker trucks, and airplanes. The mentions "POCZTA LOTNICZA" and "FIAT" confirm air and automobile transport themes. Technical drawings alternate with stylized urban landscape views.
The visible stamps present a beautiful color palette and clear printing. Some pieces show slight cancellation marks, typical of stamps that have circulated. The whole offers an attractive visual panorama for the themes of aviation, fauna, flora, and historical European vehicles.
Condition
Used lot sold as is. The visible stamps are in generally good condition, with some cancellations and signs of use. The edges appear clean, with no apparent tears on the visible side.
Did you know? Triangular stamps, although less common than rectangular formats, are sought after for their originality. Several European countries, such as Hungary or Poland, have regularly issued thematic series on aviation or flora since the mid-20th century, reflecting their postal and industrial history.
