Description

This vintage magazine, titled "Dimanche Illustré," features the headline "L’Heure du Mikado" on its cover. This is an original copy dated August 31, 1941, as indicated by the visible mention below the masthead. This French weekly newspaper highlights a black and white photograph depicting a young man in action during the harvest, with the caption "Jeunes de France à la moisson" (Youth of France at the harvest) (see page 8). The entire cover is framed by a red-orange border typical of the graphic layout of this type of publication from the 1940s.

The upper left part of the cover displays the "D.I. Dimanche Illustré" logo on a red background, accompanied by the indication "Hebdomadaire" (Weekly) and the selling price "2 F". The main title "L’HEURE DU MIKADO" (The Hour of the Mikado) occupies a prominent position at the top of the page, printed in black characters, with a note inviting readers to read the main article on pages 4 and 5. This titling style, associated with documentary photography, reflects the French illustrated press of the early 1940s.

The cover image shows an agricultural scene, focusing on the rural and patriotic themes of the period. The details of the photograph are sharp: the ears of wheat and the sickle held by the character are clearly visible, symbolizing field work in France. The contrast between black, white, and the sepia tones of the paper enhances the vintage atmosphere of the newspaper.

The magazine shows a slight patina visible on the upper edge and signs of wear consistent with a vintage copy: slightly dog-eared corners, traces of handling, and paper color showing a typical ivory tint of old papers. No major tears are visible on the front cover.

All inscriptions are legible on the front page, allowing for authentication of the edition and its date. The overall graphics, from fonts to layout, fit into the retro aesthetic of the French press of the 1940s.

Condition

Used item sold as is. The copy shows signs of wear related to its age, including paper patina, blunted corners, and slight handling marks visible on the cover.
