Small antique Nautilus pocket watch, with a dark patinated case, light dial with Roman numerals and red 24-hour inner graduation. A pocket timepiece with sober charm, presented in its used condition.

Description

Pocket watch signed Nautilus on the dial. The white dial features a double reading: black Roman numerals on the periphery and red numerals from 13 to 24 in the center, with a railroad minute track. The black, thin, cut-out hands accompany a legible and balanced composition.

The round case, dark brown with a marked patina, is fitted with an annular bow and a fluted crown. The hinged back reveals a mechanical hand-wound movement, with gilded plates, visible gears and screws.

Context

Mechanical pocket watches are a classic testament to pocket watchmaking, before the widespread adoption of the wristwatch. The dial with 12/24 hour double graduation, Roman numerals, and case with bow are part of a traditional watchmaking vocabulary, sought after for its decorative as well as functional character.
