Description

Late 19th-century mechanical table alarm clock, presented here with its visible mechanism and original key. The circular case features a gilded finish with a patinated appearance, typical of gilded brass as mentioned in the keywords. The dial, visible on the front, has a central raised decoration with a stylized floral motif, as well as a finely molded rim. The black Arabic numerals, associated with decorative motifs, are arranged in a circle on a white background slightly yellowed by time, which enhances the period aesthetic.

The front reveals the internal movement, with several elements of the mechanism visible through the open structure. Two finely crafted black hands indicate the time. Next to the alarm clock are the original key (flat ring shape), a circular metal balance wheel, and a glass accessory with a metal stopper, probably a small oil bottle for mechanism maintenance. The ensemble is photographed on a wooden table, in a softly lit environment that highlights the brass patina and the dial's details.

The upper part of the alarm clock is topped with a metal handle and a knurled knob, likely for adjustment or winding. The back of the case, though partially visible, shows openwork motifs evoking the decorative style of the late 19th century. No manufacturer's markings are legible on the photographed face.

The visible mechanism demonstrates a traditional design, with a visible escapement, spring, and balance wheel. The original key, placed in front of the object, confirms the presence of the manual winding system. The ensemble presents a beautiful aesthetic coherence, with matching metal elements and visual harmony between the dial, structure, and accessories.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The ensemble displays a uniform patina, visible signs of wear on the gilded brass, and some slight oxidation marks on the metal parts. The dial shows slight discoloration and some age-related stains. The visible elements are intact, with no major chips or apparent missing parts on the photographed face.

Did you know? 19th-century mechanical alarm clocks frequently used a spring movement and a hand-adjusted balance wheel to ensure precision. Gilded brass was prized for its corrosion resistance and ease of molding, allowing for fine and detailed decorations on clock cases.
