Description

This piece is a traditional statue representing a stylized figure, attributed to the Mossi people of Burkina Faso, according to the visual elements and keywords provided. The object is carved from a material that looks like wood, as indicated by the "wood" keyword. The ovoid head features a geometric face engraved in relief, with stylized features: eyebrow arches, a rectilinear mouth, prominent teeth, and a round eye. The surface of the head shows shades from dark brown to black, with visible patina and some cracks, indicating authentic craftsmanship.

The neck and upper part of the bust are adorned with intertwined motifs, reminiscent of a weaving or inlay technique, likely created using natural fibers or decorative application on the wood. The lower part of the bust reveals suspended elements, including several shells visible in the photo, typical of traditional African ornaments. These shells are attached with cords, enhancing the statue's ethnic aesthetic.

The statue adopts a simple vertical posture, with a slender volume and a stable cylindrical base. The entire sculpture features engraved details and rough finishes, highlighting the artisanal character and uniqueness of the piece. Color variations range from light brown to deep black depending on the areas, with traces of wear and patina that give the object an authentic presence and singular charm.

The linear motifs and visible textures accentuate the symbolic and ritual dimension of the statue, characteristic of traditional Mossi objects. No other patterns, inscriptions, or marks are legible on the presented face. The statue is displayed on a light wooden stand, which is not included in the description of the item for sale.

Condition

Second-hand item sold as is. The statue shows traces of patina, signs of wear, visible cracks on the upper part, and irregularities related to its artisanal manufacturing. The shells and suspended elements appear complete on the visible side.
